Mercedes-Benz Introduces Third Shift At Hungary Plant

Mercedes-Benz will add a third shift at its plant in Kecskemet, Hungary, starting from May. The plant produces the B-Class and CLA, and the third shift will operate on Saturdays, depending on the estimated demand in the market.

Mercedes-Benz are delighted that they have to increase production for the two compact models, which complements the range opened by the A-Class, and freshly enlarged with the GLA. Moreover, the Germans said that the new workers will focus on the entry-level versions of the two models, which succeed to achieve impressive sale volumes.

Inserting an extra work shift at the factory in Hungary brings new employment in Kecskemet, a place where another 3,400 employees were contracted at the end of 2013.

This factory has produced 109,000 cars in the previous year, which made an important contribution to the overall figures of the German manufacturer, which still holds the third position in the ranking of sales in the premium segment.

The third shift at the Kecskemet factory comes in addition to supplementing the production of A-Class, GLA and B-Class conducted in October 2012 in the Rastatt factory in Germany.

In addition to the two factories, Mercedes-Benz has a contract with the Finns from Valmet Automotive, which produced the A-Class in 2013 and are responsible for delivering over 100,000 units by the end of 2016.
