Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Automatic SUV officially confirmed for India

Hindustan Motors has officially confirmed the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport SUV’s automatic version for the Indian market. The SUV will be launched here in the autumn of the year.  The Pajero Sport will have a 2.5 liter turbo diesel engine and a 5 speed automatic gearbox. Other parts of the SUV will remain as they are and this includes the feature set.


Presently, the same diesel engine is available on the Pajero Sport with a 5 speed manual gearbox. The engine produces 177 PS of peak power and 400 Nm of peak torque. Along with the 5 speed automatic gearbox, the 4 wheel drive system of the SUV will be retained. The Pajero Sport is a seven seat SUV known for its good off road manners and tough build.

The automatic version of the Pajero Sport will be priced higher than the manual gearbox version. The Pajero Sport is the only product that Mitsubishi sells in India. Thereby, an additional variant for the SUV will mean that dealers will have another opportunity to increase sales and footfalls.


The automatic version of the Pajero Sport will be built at Hindustan Motors’ Chennai assembly facility. The SUV is built on a body on ladder frame with its platform being that of the Mitsubishi Triton pick up truck. The Triton pick up truck is a popular utility vehicle in South East Asia.
