Czech auto major Skoda Auto today launched the new generation Skoda Superb in India, priced between Rs 18.87 lakh and Rs 25.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The new generation the premium executive sedan was first unveiled at the ongoing India Auto Expo 2014. The first generation Superb was launched in 2004.
This is the second major launch from Skoda in India. The new Skoda Octavia was launched in India in October last year.
Superb, Skoda India's flagship model, will be available in five variants. The engines for the Skoda Superb in India are a petrol 1.8 TSI-118 kW and 2.0 TDI-1-3 kW. The petrol variants of Skoda Superb are available in both manual and automatic transmission.
Talking reporters on the occasion, Sudhir Rao, Chairman & Managing Director, Skoda Auto India said, "The introduction of the redesigned Superb is part of our ongoing model offensive strategy."
"This year, you will see a lot of improvement in our aftersales, customer relationship and product planning. We will have a financially sustainable business," Rao added.
Admitting that the company had issues with after-sales, he said, "Skoda India has worked on reducing the number of days taken for repairs of cars drastically."
The new Superb has fresh exterior and improved technical features. The front and rear sections of the Superb have been completely redesigned. New headlights have been incorporated with bi-xenon and integrated LED daytime running lights an LED turning signals. The rear end of the car now has cleaner lines.
Skoda Superb's luggage compartment has also been increased to 565 litres, which is the best in the class, said the company. Additionally, the compartment can be extended to 1,700 by folding the rear seats.
The interior of the Skoda Superb has also been refreshed with new generation steering wheel. Addressing safety concerns, Skoda India has added eights airbags.
The company's main models in India are sedans Superb, Octavia and Rapid along with sports utility vehicle Yeti.
